Abstract

1402655 Tensioning wires &c. MANUFACTURAS DE ACERO Y CAUCHO SA 14 Sept 1972 [14 Sept 1971] 42649/72 Heading F2G Wires, cables, rods or the like 108 are tensioned and then anchored in an anchoring plate 107 by a jack comprising a striker plate 112 for driving wedges 110 against the wires &c. 108 in bores in the anchoring plate 107, and a tubular housing 101 within which a front cylinder 114 is drivable to strike the striker plate 112 and a rear cylinder 123 is drivable to move wire gripping means 132, 135 so as to tension the wires. As shown, the front and rear cylinders are driven by admitting hydraulic fluid through ducts 120, 127, 129 into annular chambers 119, 128, 120. The wires 108 are passed through the anchor plate 107, with the wedges 110 in position, and also through the striker plate 112. A bearing member 111 is located around the anchoring state 107 and the wire ends are threaded into bores 143, 134 in an unclamping plate 142 and gripping block 132 and through sleeves 144, 139 surrounded by springs 147, 141. The sleeves 144 urge gripping wedges 135 away from their seats 134. Fluid is admitted through the duct 127 into the chamber 128 to drive the rear cylinder 123 away from plate 107. The springs 147 urge the unclamping plate 142 forwardly of the block 132, withdrawing the sleeves 144 from contact with the wedges 135 which now grip the wires 108 under the influence of the spring sleeves 139. Thus the wires 108 are tensioned to the required extent. Fluid is then admitted to the chamber 119 through the duct 120 driving the front cylinder 114 against an annular member 113 which strikes the striker plate 112 to anchor the wires 108 by the wedges 110. Springs 121 then return the member 113 and cylinder 114. Fluid is admitted through the duct 129 to chamber 130. The rear cylinder 123 is still connected to the wires 108 so the housing 101 moves away from the anchoring plate 107 until bolts 149 abut the unclamping plate 142 so that the sleeves 144 move the wedges 135 away from the seats 134 to release the wires 108. The jack can then be removed leaving the tensioned wires anchored to the plate 107. In another embodiment, the gripping wedges (17) (Figs. 1, 2, 3, not shown) may be released by moving back the plate (21) on which they are mounted.
