Abstract

1402497 Measuring angular velocity and deceleration TELDIX GmbH. 13 Sept 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 43141/73 Heading G1N A sensor unit for attachment to a wheel mounted on a non-rotating shaft 21 (Fig. 1) incorporates an inertia mass 7 and switch contacts 10, for indicating when the deceleration exceeds a pre-set value, and a toothed rotor 22 associated with a toothed stator 31 carrying circumferentially disposed magnets 34 and a toroidal coil 36, for measuring the angular velocity. The sensor unit has a base 3 with a cylindrical extension 20 which is screwed on to a wheelhub for rotation with the wheel. The inertia mass 7 is mounted on bearings 6 on a centre pin 5 attached to the base 3. A pin 8 protrudes from the mass 7 to rotate normally with spring contacts 10 on the base 3. If the deceleration exceeds a pre-set value the springs 10 are deflected by the pin 8 to close switch contacts and send a signal via pin 11 and leaf spring contacts 12. The stator of the angular velocity sensor comprises a tubular portion 32 extending into the shaft 21, and a disc portion 31 carrying magnets 34 and toroidal coil 36, between iron discs 37, 38, the latter having an outer toothed edge 40. The rotor 22 has a matching inner toothed edge 23 and is biased by spring 24 against housing base 3, with a groove 26 engaging a lug 25 of the base 3, so that the rotor rotates with the housing 3. Connections are made through spring contacts 12, 13 and a plug and socket arrangement 47 to leads in a cable 46.
