Abstract

1352725 Dynamo-electric machines; electric couplings TELDIX GmbH 17 Sept 1971 [17 Sept 1970] 43510/71 Headings H2A and H2E In a tachogenerator comprising a stator and rotor respectively connected to a stationary member and a rotatable member, the stator is connected to the stationary member through an elastically deformable element so that eccentric running of the rotatable member relative to the stationary member does not affect the electrical output signal of the tachogenerator. As shown, the rotor 12 of a tachogenerator is connected directly to a wheel hub 2 of a vehicle and is mounted by a ball bearing 13 in the stator which is connected to a shaft journal 1 through a flexible rod 27, e.g. of spring brass. The stator coil 9 is mounted between two toothed magnetic material discs 10, 11 and the rotor comprises a toothed annulus 12. The ball bearing 13 is located in a plane of symmetry of the magnetic circuits of the stator and rotor so that any transverse movement of the rotor and stator about the ball bearing will not affect the output signal. The coil is connected to external circuitry through a two part coupling comprising coaxial rigid plugs 33, 35, Fig. 2, and cooperating resilient sockets 41, 37, Fig. 3, the sockets being moulded in a plastics material body surrounded by a metal casing 44 which is firmly pressed into the bore in the axle journal 1. One end of the coil is connected to a hub 23 and then through the rod 27 to the outer plug and socket 33, 41, the socket being connected through lead 43 to the vehicle chassis. The other winding end is connected to a braided wire 31 crimped to the plug 35. An electrical connection from the wheel to the chassis by passing the bearings is provided by a leaf spring 45 engaging the end of the rod 27 and mounted on and rotatable with a cover 19 of the tachogenerator.
