Abstract

1402413 Measuring corrosion electrically IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40971/71 Heading G1N [Also in Division H1] The corrosion of a metal structure is monitored by measuring the resistance of a spiral element made from the same stock or with the same metallurgical properties as the structure so that the rate of corrosion in both is the same. In forming the element from a metal block or tube e.g. by cutting, paring or turning, care is taken so that the minimum of stress is imposed on the material. The element may be welded to body 3 at 4 so that there is no preferential pitting at the join and may be a single or double helux, a spiral or a zig-zag.
