Abstract

1401784 Decolorization process for dyewaste waters ROHM & HAAS CO 15 Sept 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 42926/72 Heading C1C [Also in Division C3] A process for separating dyestuff(s) from aqueous streams comprises contacting the aqueous stream with beads (0À1-3 mm. dia.) of macroreticular, cross-linked polymeric adsorbent, the resin being either a polymer of vinyl, divinyl or trivinyl benzenes or polymers of methacrylates with 0-90% of mono- or diethylenically unsaturated comonomers, the polymer having a porosity of at least 30%, a specific surface area of 100-1000 metres<SP>2</SP> (BET method) and a pore diameter of 20-200 Š; and then contacting the effluent therefrom with a macroreticular weak acid or base ion exchange resin. The stream may also be filtered or finally "polished" with active carbon; the adsorbers may be regenerated by exemplified methods. The dyes removed may be disperse, acid, direct, fibre reactive basic, sulphur, anionic, cationic, neutral, mordant or vat dyestuffs.
