Abstract

1401609 Chucks G H ROHM 25 March 1974 [9 May 1973 21 Sept 1973] 13049/74 Heading B3B A clamping chuck for latches comprises jaws 2 movable radially in a body 1 by linear transverse movements of tacks 5 having oblique teeth 4 engaging teeth 3 on the jaws, the racks having further movement beyond that necessary for the operating range of movement of the jaws to allow disengagement of the teeth 3 and 4 to allow removal of the jaws 2, each rack carrying a slidable retainer member 12 having a projection 11 to engage the teeth 3 of the jaw to prevent the jaws being centrifugally ejected during inadvertent rotation of the chuck when the teeth 3 and 4 are out of engagement, and the body 1 including manually operable locking members 13 which lock the retainer members 12 in engagement with the teeth 3 and which are operable to retract the said retainer members and release the jaws. The racks 5 are actuated simultaneously by a rotatable ring 10 receiving slide blocks 9 mounted on a stud 8 of the racks. The locking member 13 includes a spring biased stud having a head 23 which abuts against a shoulder of a bush 42. The head 23 has an inclined wedge tooth 27 which engages an oblique aperture 19 in the retainer member to retract the retainer member. The retainer member slides in a dovetail or T-slot groove in the rack 5.
