Abstract
1401428 Variable-speed control LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 July 1972 [27 July 1971] 35324/71 Heading F2D A governor valve, for supplying output speed responsive pressure 37 to tangential shift pistons of roller carriages in a constant speed toric disc gear, driving, e.g. an aircraft alternator, includes a transverse cylinder containing a piston 43 subject to governor delivery pressure 37 and acting through a lever 46 on the datum end of a spring 34 opposing governor masses 29, which are pivoted at 30 and control a valve 33 having a land 35 regulating supply pressure 38 to a delivery port 36, the arrangement being such that any change in delivery pressure 37, due to governor action in response to speed change, causes the piston 43 to shift the spring datum 47 so that during the steady state constant speed condition the spring compression remains constant. The transverse piston 43 is supported by a diaphragm spring 44 and acts on the lever 46 through a temperature compensator 45. Transients are eliminated by a restrictor 52 and accumulator 49. A relief valve 53 flation chamber 20 to inflate the seal. To retain is provided in the supply line.
