Abstract

Bodies ; dashboards. - B o d i e s, dash - boards, mudguards, engine bonnets, and other parts of motor and other vehicles are made by electro-deposition of metal upon a removable pattern or a permanent backing, in which frame bars are embedded. According to one method, and as applied to a door panel, frame bars h, Fig. 4, are placed in recesses g in a pattern f, the surface of the pattern is rendered conducting if necessary and a layer of copper or other metal is deposited thereon by arranging the pattern as one side of the electrolytic vat. The layer of copper 6 with the frame bars h attached is then removed from the pattern, and is strengthened by filling in the space between the frame bars with expanded metal or wire mesh 7, Fig. 8, and applying a layer of sulphite cellulose, cellulose acetate product, papier mÔchÚ, wood pulp or other plastic material 8. Or plastic material, wire meshing and frame bars may first be applied to the pattern, and this structure then removed from the pattern and caused to receive the deposit directly by being fitted as one side of the vat. According to the Provisional Specification, the pattern for the structure of plastic material may be immersed in the electrolyte and the metal may be deposited on both sides. The deposited metal may be zinc.
