1401121 Coding machine SIEMENS AG 14 Feb 1973 [7 April 1972] 7370/73 Heading G5X Sample containers 13 are coded for later identification by holes punched in equi-spaced columns in skirt 15, while corresponding visible symbols are heat-impressed in similar angular positions on rim 14. Containers 13 are held by their rims in three slots at 120 degrees on stepping table 17, entering at 23, punched at 24 and discharged at 25. The principles of selection of stamps and punches by control unit 49 are not described: after completion of marking a previous container, control starts main motor 27 and punching rotor 38. Motor 27 steps the table forward 120 degrees, and via lifting drive 29 raises the punch block 33 and associated cylinder 34 and punches 35, the operative punches for the first column being selected by control 49 via electromagnetic coupling 37. The holes are punched and segment 45, heated by element 48, is turned by stepping motor 45, controlled by unit 49 to bring the required stamp 46 over the container rim. Control 49 then operates magnet 47 to stamp rim, and on completion energizes solenoid 40 to engage friction block 39 with the container rim, ready for stepping motor 41 to bring the next column of the containing skirt opposite punches 35. The selection of punches is changed by control 49 via coupling 37 and the cycle repeats until all the columns have been punched and the rim stamped correspondingly. The punch block 33 is then lowered ready for motor 27 to index the table through 120 degrees, bringing the coded container to discharge position 25 and introducing a new container at 24.
