Abstract

1400968 Finishing fabrics SKETCHLEY Ltd 26 Feb 1974 [4 April 1973] 16029/73 Heading D1S A piece of fabric is pleated and is transfer printed on the exposed surfaces of the pleats but not on the non-exposed parts. The fabric may contain di- or tri-acetate, polyamide or polyester fibres and, if the fabric is not such as naturally to yield permanent pleats, these may be sewn in or secured by resin treatment. The printing sheet may carry a single colour, more than one colour and/or a pattern. The pleats may be straight, knife, flat, forward, reverse, box, group or progressive and arranged in long or short repeats. In the provisional drawing, a skirt length 1 is pleated and a printing sheet 2 is pressed onto the exposed upper surface 3 with heat to effect printing. The inner parts 4 of the pleats and the underside 5 of the fabric retain their original colour. In Fig. 1, a fabric 12 is fed with tissue and backing paper from rolls 14, 16 between metal pleating blades and between heated oilfilled metal nip rollers 24, 26. The pleated sandwich passes over a water-cooled plate 30. The fabric is removed from the sandwich and laid with its pleats closed on a bed 52 at a loading station of a printing machine 50. A transfer sheet is placed on the fabric and the bed 52 is conveyed into contact with a heating plate 54 to effect printing.
