1400904 Methyl methacrylate copolymer ROHM GmbH 8 Feb 1973 [9 Feb 1972] 6284/73 Heading C3P A synthetic resin, useful for example in protective covers for lights, is obtained by polymerizing a mixture of (A) 0À1-5% by wt. of at least one compound containing at least two allyl groups per molecule, (B) 0À1-5% by wt. of at least one compound containing either (a) at least two carbon-carbon double bonds each in the α,#-position with respect to an aromatic or carbonyl group or (b) one such double bond and an allyl group, and (C) methyl methacrylate or a mixture thereof with up to 10% (based on the wt. of the mixture) of one or more further comonomers. The polymerization may be carried out by conventional means, e.g. by bulk polymerization in a mould, using a free-radical initiator, to form sheets of the resin. This reaction may be carried out in the presence of U.V. absorbers and/or antioxidants. Exemplified monomers are (A) diethyleneglycol di-(allyl carbonate) or triallyl cyanurate or isocyanurate, (B) ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate, 1,4-butyleneglycol dimethacrylate or allyl methacrylate and, as the additional monomer in component (C), methyl acrylate or styrene and ethylene glycol monomethacrylate.
