Abstract
1400369 Automatic pipettor UNION CARBIDE CORP 16 July 1973 [17 July 1972] 33767/73 Heading G1B An automatic pipettor for use in an analyzer such as a rotating spectrophotometer comprises a rotatable loading disc 1 which comprises a plurality of cavity locations 3 with each location having a sample cavity 5 and reagent cavity 7. A slot 9 enables indexing of the disc 1 by way of pin 10. A sample ring 30 and disc 1 are rotatably mounted with sample cups 32 placed in equally spaced apertures on the ring 30 and containing the sample of interest, e.g. blood serum. In operation, sample from cups 32, reagent from reagent reservoir 43 and diluent from diluent reservoir 46 are delivered sequentially to the desired cavity locations 3 through the action of probe supporting sample diluent arm 40 and probe supporting reagent arm 42 via probes 87, 118 and 132. As a rotor assembly is driven, centrifugal force moves the contents of the sample and reagent cavities to transfer cavities 13 where sample and reagents are mixed and transferred through channels 15 to their respective cuvets 12. The filled cuvets 12 rotate between light source 17 and photo-multiplier detector 19, the signals provided indicating any light transmission changes due to reaction between reagent and sample.
