Abstract

1399441 Photo-electric positioning SHORE OCEAN SURVEYS PTY Ltd 27 March 1973 [27 March 1972] 14691/73 Heading H4D A helicopter is positioned above a point by aiming a beam of substantially coherent electronmagnetic radiation vertically from the point and moving the helicopter until a predetermined number of detectors on the helicopter are activated. Helicopter H has detectors D which are activated by laser L. The detectors may be in a triangular or square array and when all or a certain number of the detectors are simultaneously activated by laser L, the helicopter is positioned with sufficient accuracy above the laser, an indication being given to the pilot. When the helicopter is positioned antenna AT can be activated to transmit to remote stations A, B to determine the distances to the station and thus for the position of the laser location.
