Abstract
1399382 Isomerizing dimethylnaphthalenes TEIJIN Ltd 31 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40444/72 Heading C5E [Also in Division C2] Dimethylnaphthalenes are isomerized at 260-370‹ C. in the vapour phase using a carrier gas and a silica-alumina catalyst, at least 80 wt. per cent of the catalyst being in the form of particles of size 7-150 mesh (Tyler) 2,6 DMN may be obtained from a mixture of 2,6-, 1,6- and 1,5-DMN; 2,7 DMN from a mixture of 2,7-, 1,7- and 1,8-DMN. Preferably the trimethylnaphthalene content of the feed is not more than 10 mol. per cent. Suitable carrier gases include N 3 , CO 2 , H 2 , and C 1 -C 10 hydrocarbons.
