Abstract
1399081 Image pick-up tubes ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO Ltd 28 Nov 1973 [7 Feb 1973] 5957/73 Heading HID The pyroelectric target of a camera tube, comprising crystal 10 of pyroelectric material, e.g. triglycene sulphate, having embedded therein a mesh of relatively high thermal conductivity, e.g. the copper mesh 12, to prevent the lateral dissipation through the crystal of heat from the image, with consequent decrease of resolution, by conducting such heat directly to a heat sink in the form of a mounting ring (not shown) secured to the mesh beyond the crystal. Either the mesh 12, or a carbon layer 18, may be employed as the signal plate for the target, the layer 18 also increasing the thermal absorption of the image by the crystal. The target is made by lowering the crystal on to a mesh which supports a drop of water (Fig. 1, not shown); the water dissolves a portion of the crystal, to leave the mesh within the crystal upon evaporation of the water.
