Abstract
1398688 Wet screening apparatus RAFFINERIE TIRLEMONTOISE 16 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 18289/73 Heading B2H A washer for roots or tubers comprises rows of stationary injectors 16 for washing liquid disposed beneath a shaker 'conveyor 1 having a perforated bottom which consists of a plurality of elements 10 arranged in succession in the longitudinal direction of the conveyor and each provided with a rim portion 14 positioned on the same side as the inlet E of the conveyor and with a rim portion 13 positioned on the same side as the outlet S of the conveyor each rim portion 13 being at a higher level than an adjacent rim portion 14 in such a manner that between two successive elements 10 the roots or tubers make a fall causing them to turn over. The conveyor 1 is supported from pivotable links 2 and is driven by a motor through a crank and connecting rod assembly 8 and a pivotable lever 6. The elements 10 consist of metal sheets supported on transverse sections 15 integral with the conveyor side walls 4 and provided with slots 11 which are offset from one sheet to the next. Each sheet 10 has a portion 10a which may be horizontal or inclined at an angle of up to 10‹ to the horizontal and a portion 10b inclined at 20‹ to 30‹. The portion 10b of each sheet has a downwardly directed flange 10c defining with an adjacent sheet a space 12 of a size allowing the flow of water and impurities but preventing the passage of the roots or tubers. The injectors 16 are carried at the location of the slots 11 by perforated pipes 9 connected to a main washing water supply pipe 19. The injectors 16 are preferably inclined at an angle of up to 10‹ from the vertical in the direction of travel of the roots or tubers. There may be more than one pipe beneath each sheet 10 with at least one row of injectors inclined within the selected range and others with a different inclination in the same or in the opposite direction. Perforated wash water pipes may also be adjustably disposed above the conveyor with their injectors in or opposite to the direction of travel of the roots or tubers. The conveyor may be inclined upwardly for use as an elevator. Instead of perforated metal sheets 10, latticed elements of corresponding crosssectional shape in elevation may be used.
