Abstract

1398400 Selective printers ING C OLIVETTI & CO SpA 6 Sept 1972 [6 Sept 1971] 41411/72 Heading B6F A serial printer comprises a print carriage 10 traversable along a print line with respect to a platen 11 by a motor 46, the displacement of the print carriage 10 acting to rotate the platen roller for line spacing. The motor 46 drives the print carriage 10 through a gear 42 meshing with teeth 39 forming a closed track (Fig. 6, not shown) so that as the motor is driven in a constant sense the carriage 10 is reciprocated with respect to the platen 11. The platen is rotated for line spacing by a projection 63 engaging diagonal guide tracks (59, 60, Fig. 8, not shown) in the print carriage 10, the projection thereby being rotated as the carriage 10 is displaced, the projection being rotatable with a ratchet-toothed crown 66 engaging a further ratchet-toothed crown 70 keyed at 81, 82 to the platen roller, such that the platen roller is rotated stepwise in a constant direction. The print carriage 10 supports a print head having styli capable of acting on metallic-coated paper 12, which is held against the platen roller by spring urged rollers 115, 116 which may form part of the electrical circuit. The styli are cleaned by a knurled wheel 101 eccentrically mounted with respect to the platen roller, and over which the styli ride at the beginning of a line.
