Abstract
1398387 Electric storage batteries JOSEPH LUCAS (BATTERIES) Ltd 19 Oct 1972 [9 Dec 1971] 57142/71 Heading H1B An electric storage battery includes a conductive probe 21 extending through an external wall 12 into the interior of the battery 11, the probe 21 being resistance welded through an aperture 16 in wall 12 to a contact member 17, wherein an indication of whether the electrolyte is at or above a predetermined level may be made by completing a circuit through the electrolyte between the contact member 17 and a terminal of the battery. The wall 12 preferably comprises the polypropylene lid of the battery which is moulded with a number of recesses 15, one for each respective cell compartment 14, in which are received respective contact members 17, which preferably comprise a lead base cast around a brass blade 19. A projection on either or both the contact member 17 and probe 21 extends into the wall aperture 16 to facilitate the resistance welded connection of the contact member and probe.
