1398371 Texturing yarns; regulating tension; false-twisters R C SPURGEON 6 Sept 1973 41950/73 Headings DID D1F and D1W In a process for false-twist texturing continuous multifilament synthetic e.g. nylon or polyester, yarns wherein such yarn is pulled by the final take-up means through successive heating, twisting and untwisting zones, the yarn is controlled (as by twist stop(s) and yarn check(s)) at spaced locations along its path so that no twist applied in the twisting zone runs back into the heating zone and no relaxation i.e. slackening and/or change in length, occurring in the untwisting zone is reflected in the twisting zone. Thus the twisting is applied uniformly with consequent uniformity in the textured yarn which is described as devoid of "spiky" or "bristle-like" projections. The twisting zone may provide both primary and secondary twisting. As shown, yarn Y passes successively through a tensionlevelling device 10, an electric heater 12, twiststop device 14, false-twisting apparatus 16 and a check device 18. In the device 10 a change in the tension of the yarn downstream thereof causes or allows rings 24 and 30 to move up or down standards 22 and 28 thereby changing the degree of yarn wrap around the surface of a roller 20 (rotating at a constant speed which exceeds the linear speed of the yarn end and is in the yarn advancing direction) and thus the slippage therebetween with a resultant regulation of yarn tension. Apparatus 16 comprises an individually driven rubberedged disc 66 frictionally engaging the yarn normally to the direction of trawl thereof or, as shown, at an angle e.g. 60‹, thereto: it is combined with device 18 comprising another individually driven friction disc 70, the extent of yarn wrap around the edges of the discs being determined according to the position of guide 84 relative to guides 82 and 86. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the primary (false-) twisting is effected by a hollow spindle, through which the yarn passes and makes one turn around a cross-pintherein, cooperating with a disc 70.
