Abstract

1398284 Filter with reverse flow cleaning W LUK-PASZYC 6 July 1973 [12 April 1972] 16942/72 Heading B1D A filter comprises respective impervious and perforate dished members 2, 1, bolted together to enclose a space divided by flexible diaphragm 3, member 1 being covered by filter medium 5 through which liquid normally flows inwards, to outlet 9 which leads to a suction pump, periodic delivery of compressed air or water through inlet 10 advancing the diaphragm from the position shown, whereupon peripheral lip 11 closes the outlet and further advance of the diaphragm forces the filtrate enclosed between member 1 and the diaphragm in reverse flow through the filter medium. Filter medium 5 may be nylon cloth removably secured by ring 4 which is tied by rope 6 to bolts 7, 8. The diaphragm is rubber or neoprene and moulded so as to assume the form shown in the absence of fluid pressure at inlet 10. The filter is used immersed in a tank of recirculating grinding machine-coolant. Reverse flow cleaning lasts only, a few seconds and is controlled by a timer and solenoid valve.
