Abstract

1398166 Electro medical apparatus SIEMENS AG 24 Aug 1972 [25 Aug 1971] 39578/72 Heading G1N A signal conductor 5 for connecting an electrode 4 to a processing unit 6 has incorporated therein an isolating coupling member 10 having a discharge current value in the range 2-5 ÁA, the member being located no greater than 1.5 metres from the electrode connection point. As shown in Fig.2, the coupling member includes an amplifier 11, a modulator 12, a first coupling transformer 13 for decoupling the lengths of conductor 5 and a second coupling transformer 14 for decoupling the amplifier and modulator energy supply conductors 15, 16. Capacitors may alternatively be used. In use, when there is a disturbance at the body of the patient and/or of the mains voltage at the unit, the sum of the leakage currents flowing from the conductor to earth on the one hand, and across the coupling member on the other does not exceed a maximum permissible leakage current value of 10ÁA.
