Abstract

1397906 Hair tongs VENUS ELECTRIC Ltd 26 July 1973 [29 Aug 1972] 35619/73 Heading A4V An implement for treating hair comprises @a pair of arms 10, 12 connected by a pivot and operated by handles 11, 13. A first arm 10 is a hollow perforated cylinder the second arm having its cross-section shaped to match the outer curvature of the first. The hollow arm houses a container 20 for an electric resistance heating element 24 and an absorbent wick 22 between the container and the inner wall of the arm 10. A reservoir for liquid is carried by the handle of one arm and liquid flow from the reservoir to the wick is controlled by a manually operated valve. By heating at the wick the liquid is vapourized and escapes via the perforations. The wick space may be cresent shaped and made watertight by a cap 16 and by enlargement of the container to closely fit inside the first arm. The reservoir 31 may be located in the handle 13 and have a nozzle 35 projecting into a soft rubber sealing boss 34 to convey liquid via a passage 37 across the pivoting joint to the wick chamber. To induce liquid flow air can enter the reservoir when the seated push button 38 is operated against a spring 39. The handles 11, 13 are plastics mouldings and the reservoir is held by a polyethylene tie (36.)with a closing disc (36<SP>1</SP>) for the filler Fig. 5 (not shown), and has a moulded plastics cover secured by ultrasonic welding.
