Abstract

1397878 Fluid actuation of switches; switch contacts LEAFIELDS ENG Ltd 11 May 1973 22587/73 Heading H1N A fluid pressure switch has contacts 22 urged towards movable contact carrier 24 which includes a conductive portion 25 which bridges contacts 22 when the switch is operated, opening of the switch being prevented by a projection 33 on carrier 24 engaging ends 28 of contacts 22. As shown, fluid pressure through connector 12 depresses bellows 14, 15 which depresses sleeve 24 (the undepressed position being shown in the top half of Fig. 1, the depressed position being shown in the bottom half of Fig. 1). Depression of sleeve 24 moves conductive portion 25 to bridge contact tips 28 of spring contacts 22. This is achieved by cams 33 on sleeve 24 forcing tips 28 away from sleeve 24 so that tips 28 ride over cams 33 till they pass their right-hand edges when they snap down on to portions 25 behind cams 33 to prevent return of sleeve 24 when the fluid pressure decreases. Tips 28 are locked against portions 25 by sleeve 24 being urged to the right by spring 27 so that cams 33 force tips 28 into sloping recesses 32 in fixed member 20 thus locking tips 28 against portions 25. There are two pairs of contacts 22, one shown in the top half of Fig. 2 and one, not shown, in the bottom half, each pair being bridged by a portion 25. To open the contacts, cover 11 must be removed and access gained to contacts 22 which are moved away from beneath cams 33 by a tool.
