Abstract

1397832 Spray cleaning leaf filter elements; Oscillating spray producers AMETEK INC 18 May 1972 [4 June 1971] 23383/72 Headings BID and B2F Filter apparatus comprising a cylindrical housing 10 containing a plurality of inward flow filter leaves 19 includes a pair of tubular cranked arms 24 carrying nozzles to supply washing liquid for removal of cake from the leaf surfaces. Each arm 24 is pivoted about an axis 30 parallel to the axis of the housing for movement around the periphery of the leaves, each arm covering one half of the periphery. Each arm carries a plurality of spray nozzles, an array of five nozzles, Fig 6, being arranged between each opposing pair of filter surfaces 19 and the arrays being separated by semicircular leaf guides 34 provided on the arm to hold the leaves firm during spraying. A filter apparatus comprising a plurality of filter leaves with associated spray arms of the above type forms the subject of Specification 1397831. The pair of filter opposed surfaces is cleaned by sprays from the array of five nozzles, eadh individual surface being cleanded by sprays from three nozzles forming a triangular array and comprising the centre nozzle 32 and the two adjacent nozzles 32, and 33. All the nozzles are arranged to provide a narrow fan shaped spray of side or elevation angle of 5‹ transverely to the filter surface. The nozzles 32 give a spray of face or plan angle of 5‹ and are directed towards the centre of the filter surfaces (Fig 8 not shown), the centre nozzle 32 being aranged with the plane of the fan perpendicular to the filter surfaces whilst the two outside nozzles 32 are arranged with this plane at about 45‹ to the filter surfaces. The nozzles 33 give a spray of face angle of 85‹ and are directed to clean the edges of the filter leaf surfaces. The upper and lower rows of nozzles are angularly spaced by 5‹ about the axis of the arm 24 (Fig 7). Means are provided to rotate the nozzle arms 24 during their passage around the periphery of the leaves as shown in Figure 2 so as to cover the whole of the filter surface with the sprays.
