Abstract

1397250 Collapsible safety gate P E D PRICE 1 Aug 1972 [2 Aug 1971] 36224/71 Headings E1B and E1J A child's safety gate consists of two spaced normally horizontal members 2, 4 pivoted about horizontal axes at one end to a support 10 and interconnected by spaced vertical members 6 pivoted thereto, whereby the gate may be collapsed upwardly as shown in broken lines at least one horizontal member having means 14, 18 for fastening in its horizontal position. The horizontal members are also pivotable about a vertical axis by means of double-jointed hinges 8, 12. In its inoperative folded position the gate may be looked in place by a latch or spring clip mounted on a wall. The fastening means 14, 18 may be spring clips on a support 16. The horizontal members may be of channel-section and the vertical members may be alternatively mounted on opposite sides of the horizontal members. The gate may be mounted in a doorway or on a staircase. The gate may be made of metal or wood and the horizontal members 2, 4 may be variable in length e.g. telescopic. Wearresistant material may be provided on the ends of the horizontal members where they fit into the clips 14, 18.
