Abstract

1396643 Spray carburetters AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT and REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 30 March 1973 [29 May 1972] 15327/73 Heading F1B A carburetter comprises a main fuel feed circuit 9, 13, Fig.2, opening into the vicinity of a throat situated downstream of a starting flap 7 and upstream of a butterfly member 5 and having parallel to the main feed circuit an additional fuel feed device 14, 17 opening into the suction pipe in the vicinity of the starting flap downstream of the latter when it is in, or in the vicinity of its closing position and an air inlet tube 19 extending downwardly into the well over a major part of its length and having an air inlet orifice 20 leading into the upper part of the well. During acceleration when the flap 7 is nearly closed an increase in depression occurs between members 5 and flap 7. Extra fuel is drawn from the well 14 through passage 17 but initially is practically unemulsified because of the small size of orifice 20 but when the fuel above the base of tube 19 has been supplied air from jet 16 passes by way of the base of tube 19 to give normal mixture supply. In another embodiment the additional fuel feed is neutralized by means in which a closure member 22a, Fig.3 (not shown), controlling an ambient air orifice 24, is operated by a diaphragm in response to induction pipe pressure. In a modification of this arrangement the closure member is operated in response to the engine cooling water temperature by a thermostatic element (30), Fig.5 (not shown). In another embodiment a closure member 28 in the conduit 17, Fig.4 (not shown) between the well 14 and the suction pipe 6 is operated in response to induction pipe pressure acting on a diaphragm 26. In a modification of this embodiment a closure member (35a), Fig.6 (not shown), is operated in response to engine cooling water temperature.
