1396558 Model support stands GRONTMIJ GRONDVERBETERING EN ONTGINNINGMAAT SCHAPPIJ NV 7 Aug 1972 [9 Aug 1971 31 May 1972(2)] 36741/72 Heading A4H [Also in Division G5] A scale model road structure comprises a sheet 33, Fig. 4 of flexible material representing the road surface carried by a plurality of supports, each support comprising a flat base 1, Fig. 1, or 41, Fig. 6, a first upright member 2 or 42 fixed to said base, a second upright member 3 or 43 connected to said first member and vertically adjustable relative thereto, means for adjusting said second member relative to said first member, a support arm 17 or 50 pivoted to the upper end of the second member, and means for adjusting the inclination of the arm with respect to the axis of said second member. In Fig. 1, the height of member 3 is adjusted by rack and rough and fine adjusting screws 4, 5a scale being provided, and the arm 17 is adjusted in inclination by screw 10 and teeth on arm 8 dependent from arm 17, a scale 9, 11 being provided. In Fig. 6, the height of member 43 is adjusted by a mechanism 45 and is set by a screw 46, scales being provided. Arm 50 is pivoted about a pivot 56 to an arm 47 integral with member 43, arm 50 being adjusted in inclination by a screw 48 mounted in arm 47 and connected to arm 50 by a ball pivot 49. A circular tongue-and-groove connection 53 pivotally mounts arm 50 on arm 47 and arcuate opposite end surfaces of arms 47, 50 carry scales at 51, 52. The base 1, 41, may be magnetic and the support arm may be magnetic or may carry magnets for holding metallized flexible sheet. A scale model of intersecting roads &c., is formed by placing a plurality of said supports upon a base surface, positioning each support upon the base surface so that the lines of support correspond in direction with the axes of the roads with respective said support arms extending at right angles to the local axis of the road, adjusting each support arm to the required height and inclination according to the local height and banking of the road, and placing upon the adjusted supports a plan of the roads cut-out from a sheet of flexible material, such as paper, upon which a plan view of the roads has been transferred. 3-dimensional co-ordinates for the supports may be derived by a computer and marked on the plan. A second plan of the roads may be placed upon the base surface on which the supports are placed. A first layer of granular material may be applied to the base surface to indicate the height of the ground level surface as indicated by marker 37, 38 Fig. 4, and a second layer 36 e.g. of a different colour may be applied to the first layer to indicate the slope of the edges 35 and central portion 36. The granular material may comprise broken grains of synthetic resin together with a binder.
