Abstract

1396367 Automatic control of position GRUMMAN DATA SYSTEMS CORP 21 Sept 1972 43858/72 Heading G3N [Also in Divisions G4-6 and H3] A data storage system includes at least one array 21 of tape cassettes which is rotatable under servocontrol for selection of a particular cassette. An error signal is derived by means of a transformer 60 whose rotor moves with array turntable 23. A signal representing the desired position is applied at 54, 58, 59 to the stator and induces an error signal in the rotor which is detected at 63 and applied to a phase-sensitive demodulator/amplifier 66 (see Division H3) to provide a position-error and drive-direction signal. This is summed at 90 with a velocity feedback signal from a tachometer 67 and is used to control magnetic clutches 31.
