Abstract

1396262 Tomographic X-ray apparatus D CLAUS 12 Oct 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 47746/73 Heading H5R A stand for tomography comprises a patient support 5 rotatable about an axis 3 and a cassette holder 33 rotatable about another parallel axis 7, the support and holder being linked by an arm 15 so as to rotate in the same sense at the same speed. The rotation is effected by a source of accumulated kinetic energy, e.g. a flywheel, or of potential energy, e.g. a spiral spring 39 when a blocking means, such as a pawl 81 is retracted from a slot 85 in a disc 75, the rotation being at a speed of more than 45 degrees per sec. An hydraulic damper 25, 27 can be provided. A safety pawl 89 is provided. A cam 79 acting on a switch 103 energizes the X-ray source 2 at the correct point in the rotation. An electrical circuit, Fig. 5 (not shown), provides for the operation of the device only when all the correct procedures have been carried out. The cassette itself need not be parallel to axis 7.
