Abstract

1395761 Insulated conductor GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 16 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 12473/72 Heading H1A [Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Copper wire is coated with a cresol or cresylic acid solution of a prepolymer which is then cured at 300‹ C., followed by again coating with the prepolymer solution and curing. The prepolymer, convertible to a polyimide, is made by reacting (A) an organic polyamine with (B) an aliphatically unsaturated dicarbonyl reactant, there being 0À5-2À0 moles (A) per mole (B), (B) being (a) maleic, citraconic, or itaconic anhydride, (b) fumaric, maleic, itaconic or 5-vinyl isophthalic acid, (c) mixtures of (a) and (b) or (d) a mixture of (a), (b), or (c) with, per mole thereof, 0À05-1 mole tetrahydrophthalic anhydride or 3,6-endomethylene-1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-cis-phthalic anhydride or its monomethyl derivative. (A) may be, e.g., a diamine or a triamine, long lists being given. Organic monoamines may also be admixed with (A). Reactant (B) may be employed in admixture with # 10% mole of a non-aliphatically-unsaturated organic dranhydride. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,298,567.
