Abstract
1395620 Dyeing textiles CARRINGTON VIYELLA Ltd 5 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 27300/72 Heading D1L In a dyeing process which comprises passing the material through a dye bath wherein the amount of dye liquor absorbed is in excess of the amount the material can hold and introducing the dyed material into a heated curing chamber wherein the excess of liquor is shed and collected in a reservoir, controlling the composition of the used dyestuff liquor by withdrawing dye liquor from the reservoir at the same rate as it collects, subjecting samples of this withdrawn liquor to spectrographic analysis in a comparative analysis unit, directing the remainder of the liquor withdrawn to a make-up apparatus controlled by the analysis unit wherein the dye liquor is reconstituted according to signals from the analysis unit, mixed with additional fresh new liquor, and returned to the dye bath. The material dyed may be blankets, felts, heavy textiles and carpets in continuous lengths. As shown in the flow diagram carpet 3 is dyed in bath 1 and introduced into steaming chamber 2 from which excess liquor via a manifold system 13 is collected in tank 4 after passing through filter 14, from where after passing through another filter unit 16 the liquor flows into cooler 5 controlled thermostatically and then into an averaging tank 6 fitted with a mixer 26 and liquid level control device 27. From this tank via regulator valve 32 the liquor flows through a sampling point 7, and a flow meter 8 to make-up apparatus 9. The sample of dye liquor withdrawn at 7 is subjected to spectrographic analysis in unit 10 and compared with that of a fresh dye liquor sample. Resulting signals from the unit are fed to apparatus 9 where dye components from tanks 35 and 36 are injected by metering pumps 37 and 38 into an injection manifold 39 to mix with flowing liquor in pipe 33. Before mixing with fresh dye liquor the composition of the made-up liquor is further tested in cell 34, and if unsuitable is discarded via valves 40 and 41.
