Abstract

1395554 Making expanded mesh reinforcement DRAHTWERKE FISCHER AG 8 Aug 1972 [11 Aug 1971] 36922/72 Heading B3A [Also in Division E1] An expanded metal reinforcement for concrete is produced by simultaneously cutting slots in a strip 7 and stretching the metal outwardly of each slot, using reciprocating tools 15, in cooperation with a stepped mandrel 14 of inverted V-section, so as to expand the metal strip 7 and simultaneously bend a blank portion, e.g. centrally thereof, about a longitudinal axis, the resulting form being as in Fig. 16 or Fig. 17 which illustrate respectively an edge bead 22 and a central bead or chord 3. The edge or edges of the reinforcement remote from the bead or chord may be reinforced by one or more rods 5, 23, 24 which may be either welded in place or secured by bent over portions 20 of the mesh.
