Abstract

1395508 Battery switching systems TOWER HOUSEWARES Ltd 13 Nov 1972 [17 Nov 1971] 53385/71 Heading H2H Electrical apparatus comprises a load 42 which is energizable from a battery 41 having a plurality of nickel-cadmium cells, connected in series which are rechargeable from an A.C. source by way of a transformer 22 and rectifier bridge 37, a switch 35 being provided whereby one or more of the battery cells may be connected to, or disconnected from the load 42 so as to provide variable energization thereof, the number of cells which can be so switched being chosen such that, in using the apparatus, the unswitched cells cannot be damaged by the reverse charging thereof, and that the switched cells cannot be overcharged during the charging process. The load 42 may be the motor driving an electric heating apparatus which may be detachably mounted on a stand wherein is housed the transformer 22, connection between which and the bridge 37 is made by connections 18-21.
