Abstract

1395486 Uranium dioxide UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 21 April 1972 [5 May 1971] 13373/71 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions B1-B2] Uranium dioxide is formed by ejecting uranyl nitrate solution through a two hole spinneret 1 at a speed of 10 ml./min. per hole while vibrating the spinneret laterally at 6000 cycles per second, into an atmosphere 9 of ammonia and a solution 11 of ammonium hydroxide to cause gelling of the droplets formed. The use of a 19 hole spinneret vibrated at 4000-8000 Hz is also described. It is preferred to form 1 drop per cycle.
