1395421 Making sliding clasp fasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 8 May 1972 [8 May 1971] 21427/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division E2] In manufacturing a row of sliding clasp fastener elements a plastics monofilament is formed into a series of substantially rectangular loops 1 separated by bridge portions 2 on an intermittently rotated disc by being wound around pairs of axially opposed pins which are arranged in two rows and extend radially from the disc's periphery. The monofilament is fed tangentially on to the periphery by an axial reciprocable guide member, and the movements of this member and the disc combine to form the loops. A heating means is located radially adjacent the periphery of the disc for welding the loops. Coupling heads 6 are stamped into the sides 3 of the loops which are then bent about an axis passing through the heads 6 to form parallel overlying legs which are then sewn on to a stringer tape. Instead of the two rows of pins, a continuous groove may be located on the disc's periphery corresponding to the configuration of a chain of loops to be formed.
