Abstract

1395263 Strain gauge assembly UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 14 Dec 1973 [3 Jan 1973] 430/73 Heading G1M An electric strain gauge 3 connected to a cable 8 is recessed into a closed ended tube 1 and is supported by a resilient sleeve 2 having a metal sleeve 4 with holes 5 therein. The gauge is provided with an outer abrasive surface formed by adhering a waterproof silicon carbide abrasive paper to the surface or by applying an abrasive powder directly to a plastics coating on the gauge, so that when the sleeve 2 is expanded by pressurized gas admitted through a conduit 7 the abrasive surface is brought into firm contact with the inner wall of a tube into which the whole device has been inserted to test strains arising in the tube.
