Abstract

1395199 Masted lift truck MIAG MUHLENBAU UND INDUSTRIE GmbH 22 Sept 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 44047/72 Heading B8H [Also in Division F2] A fork lift truck has a mast comprising a fixed section of a pair of spaced U-sectioned members 7 which guide a movable section of similar members 10 along which a lift carriage 15 is movable. The carriage 15 is connected to one end of a pair of semi-rigid chains 18, which are pivoted in one direction but not in the opposite direction, the other end of which are located in respective spiral storage magazines 17. Hydraulic motors 20 mounted on the fixed section of its mast are arranged to drive each chain to move the lift carriage along the movable section of the mast until an abutment thereon engages an upper cross-member 11 on the movable section to thereby raise said section relative to the fixed section. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), an hydraulic motor (20<SP>1</SP>) is mounted on the lift carriage 15 to move said carriage along racks (25) secured to the movable section of the mast and then along semi-rigid chains (18) connected to the upper end of each rack. The chains are stored in magazines (27) secured to the movable section. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), a pair of semi-rigid chains (18) are attached at one end to the lift carriage in back to back relation. Hydraulic motors (2011) are secured to the fixed section of the mast to erect or retract the chains, which are stored in magazines (37) secured to the fixed section of the mast and within portions of the movable section. The chains comprise a plurality of U-sectioned links (1) Fig. 1 (not shown) pivotally interconnected by ordinary links (2) whereby when the chain extends in a linear direction the ends of the web (1<SP>1</SP>) of the links (1) abut against each other to prevent pivoting of the chain in the direction of said webs. The pivotal connection (3<SP>11</SP>) between the lift carriage and the chain is offset from the plain of the pivot pins 3 of the chain to reduce any tendency of the chain to collapse. In the embodiment wherein the chains are arranged back-to-back the chains may comprise a series of long links (41) (43) (45) Fig. 9 (not shown) interconnected by intermediate links (47) (49) and inner short links (40). The long links have longitudinal extensions (43<SP>1</SP>) to abut adjacent pivot pins (33) to prevent the chain rotating in one direction whilst allowing rotation in the opposite direction and have lateral projection (43<SP>11</SP>) extending in the direction of an adjacent chain to engage pivot pins (33<SP>1</SP>) thereof to provide lateral stabilization of the chains.
