Abstract
1395151 Fire and burglar alarms J F E BELLEW 20 April 1972 [22 Jan 1971] 3006/71 Heading G4N [Also in Division H1] An alarm system comprises a switch closed in response to tension being applied to a filament of synthetic resin (e.g. nylon), and also closed in response to the fusing or stretching of said filament. Fig. 1, shows a fire alarm (not within the ambit of the invention), in which an arrangement of nylon filaments 5 are supported on pulleys 6. Contact 9 is biased by spring 8 against contact 10, but held away from contact 10 by tension in filaments 5. The contacts 9, 10 are closed by fusing or stretching the filament 5 as a result of increase in temperature or strain. In Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), an additional pair of contacts is closed as a direct result of increase in tension on filaments 5, e.g. by a burglar. A tensioning device as used on string musical instruments may be employed.
