Abstract

1394497 Suction cleaners A SUTTER AG 24 April 1973 [21 April 1972] 19376/73 Heading A4F In a suction cleaner a suction nozzle 12 containing a motor-driven brush (not shown) is connected by a suction pipe 26 to a valve device for selectively connecting the pipe 26 and a suction pipe 25, coupled via a hose 5 to an off-the-floor cleaning nozzle 7, to a suction unit comprising a filter and a motor-driven fan. The valve device comprises pivoted valve flaps 38, 41 in the pipes 25, 26 actuated by rack and pinion mechanism coupled by a cable or linkage to an operating lever 46 on the cleaner guide arm 10, the flap 38 being opened when the flap 41 is closed and vice versa. When not in use the hose 5 is stored in channels 3, 4 in the cleaner housing 1 inter-connected by a channel in a carrying handle 2. When the valve 38 is opened for use of the nozzle 7 a switch (not shown) is opened to de-energize the motor driving the brush in the nozzle 12.
