Abstract

1394342 Cabinets; heat exchanger tube fins LEC REFRIGERATION Ltd 21 June 1973 32101/73 Headings F4H and F4S An open-top refrigerated food storage cabinet is of rectangular box-like form having double walls and thermal insulation in the interspace between the walls. A first, lower evaporator 7 is disposed around the interior of the inner wall 1, between the wall 1 and vertical plates 6. The plates 6 do not extend to the base of the cabinet but leave a gap for cold air to circulate therethrough. The evaporator 7 is connected to a first refrigeration system 5 disposed within a base 4 on which the cabinet stands. At least two further, upper, evaporators 9 lie on top of the walls of the cabinet, transverse to the longitudinal axis of the cabinet. Each evaporator 9 is connected to a second refrigeration system 5 also located within the base 4. The evaporator 9 comprises a serpentine run of finned tubing. The fins 11, which extend transversely of the tubing 10, are of inverted tapering form, e.g. inverted isosceles triangular or inverted symmetrical trapezium shape, with straight or curved edges. Each evaporator unit 9 is enclosed in a detachable perforated casing 13 and includes a drip tray 12. In operation, the evaporators 9 across the top of the cabinet enable cold air to reach a uniform level across the top of the cabinet, preventing the ingress of warm air. The height of the evaporators 9 above the evaporator 7 may be variable.
