Abstract
1394305 Covering cores by winding VERA FABRIKKER AS 2 Feb 1973 [4 Feb 1972] 5264/73 Heading B8G [Also in Division F2] In order to prevent a plastics pipe from developing cracks in the direction of a roving reinforcement, during the shrinking period, one, but preferably two, reinforcing rovings are guided into zig-zag paths around a rotating mandrel shell 1, by reciprocating guides 8 and 11. The guides may be moved in opposition under the control of hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders 9 and 12. Preferably, the mandrel, as well as rotating, moves continuously in an axial direction towards a curing furnace 4. In order to give the rovings a constant inclination to the mean spiral direction, the movements of the guides 8 and 11 are appropriately more rapid in the direction of axial travel of the mandrel, than in the opposite direction. The plastics material may be applied before the rovings reach the mandrel, by passing them through a bath of curable plastics or, alternatively, after they have been applied to the mandrel. The finished pipe may have an internal or external thermoplastics liner. Besides the rovings, other forms of fibrous reinforcement may be incorporated, into it. The roving type material used may be introduced as a band.
