Abstract

1394049 Parental infusion apparatus IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 March 1974 13084/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division F2] A non-return valve assembly for administering an additional drug to a patient receiving infusion treatment comprises a T-piece 10 having a main channel between an inlet 20 connected to a vessel containing the infusion liquid and an outlet 18 to which is connected a cannula 16. In the side arm 14 of the T-piece is inserted a valve body 12 retained by friction or screw threads. The body has axial passages 22, 30, 32 and a transverse passage 26. The inner end of the body is of reduced diameter to produce a drainage channel 28 leading into the main channel. A resilient plastics tube 34 closely fitting within the transverse passage 26 forms the closure member of the non return valve. The end of a hypodermic syringe containing the necessary additional drug is inserted into the passage 22 of the valve body and on operation of the plunger pressure built up in the passage 30 deforms the tube allowing the drug to pass along the transverse passage into the drainage passage and thus into the main infusion stream.
