Abstract

1393864 Gas discharge display panels PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 Nov 1973 [28 Nov 1972] 54390/73 Heading H1D A gas discharge display panel comprises a plurality of elongated cathodes (vertical strips K) in a plane and a plurality of anodes (horizontal bars A) in another plane, an array of discharge points being defined by the intersections of the anodes and cathodes, the cathodes being interconnected in groups within the panel and each group having a lead KT extending through a panel wall. The connections between the leads KT and the appropriate cathodes can he made by cup-shaped springs (5), Fig. 3 (not shown), located in holes 3 in an insulating panel 2 between the cathodes and anodes, or alternatively by helical springs or metallic coatings in holes 3. Auxiliary anodes H may be present. axis and then back towards the axis so that it passes through an aperture on the axis in the final lens plane, a stereoscopic effect is obtained by switching the first deflection alternately to opposite sides of the axis. The basic stereo switching signal is a square wave preferably at line scanning frequency, and this is fed directly to the synchronizing system 118 of the display system, as shown in Fig. 7. This signal is also fed to the line deflection amplifiers 114 and 116 via a correction circuit 100 which introduces corrections for the required stereo angle (from potentiometer 18) the accelerating voltage (f##) the focal length of the final lens (as represented by the current I L ) and for effecting correct registration (from potentiometer 28). The height of an image point relative to a datum point in the image may be determined by measuring the distances between the two points on both displays, the difference between the two distances corresponding to the height difference. The distances may be measured by adjusting brightup pulses to coincide with the points on the displays and using these to gate clock pulses, or alternatively measuring the time between them in analogue fashion. Signals from the microscope may be encoded with information as to the stereo channel which they represent and then recorded, to be subsequently decoded and gated to the respective channels of a display.
