Abstract

1393722 Feeding extrusion and injection moulding apparatus PLASTIC MOLDERS SUPPLY CO Inc 17 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 35388/74 Divided out of 1393721 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B1-B2] Apparatus for introducing a pigment into plastic comprises (a) a passageway through said apparatus, (b) means for feeding pieces of plastic through said passageway, (c) rotary cutting means in said passageway for comminuting a pigment bar into fine shavings and scattering them in the passageway, (d) drive means for rotating (c) at an adjustable rate, (e) feed means for feeding the pigment bar at a controllable rate against (c) and being driven by (d) in interconnection with (c) so that the rate of feed is adjustable in relation to the rate of pigment comminution, and (f) timer means which permit the interconnection of (e) with (c) and (d) to be engaged and disengaged on a timed interval basis. The intermixture of pigment and plastic is then introduced into moulding apparatus, which may be an extruder or screw injection moulder, at a controlled rate. The Figures show a micrometer mixer according to the invention, the output therefrom consisting of granulated plastic and comminuted pigment passing into an extruder beneath. Specification 1,393,723 describes and claims a process for producing moulded pigmented plastic articles.
