Abstract

1393704 Control of distillation apparatus for solvent purification WASHEX MACHINERY CORP 1 May 1972 [21 May 1971] 20164/72 Heading BIB Contaminated dry-cleaning solvent is purified by boiling it in a still provided with steam-heated coils 14, 15 submerged beneath the solvent, the vapours rising through throat 21 to condenser 22 the upper part of which is connected to a temperature-sensor 37 which controls the supply of steam to coils 14 and 15 through line 17 to prevent vapour passing beyond the condenser. As shown, coils 14 and 15 are in series with a coil 16 which breaks the foam of the boiling solvent. Sensor 37 is coupled by electrical conductor 38a to a solenoid control for steam inlet valve 18 which is provided with a low volume bypass 18b. The condensate (i.e. purified solvent) flows through conduit 40, cooler 11 and dehumidifier 12 to storage tank 13. The condenser comprises two coils 23 and 24, the upper one being connected to cold water inlet line 25; the heated condenser water being discharged from line 26 on the lower coil. The still is vented through line 27. Contaminated solvent is supplied to the still through level control valve assembly 29. Accumulated sludge is discharged by pump 32. The still is provided with an illuminated observation window 34.
