Abstract
1393434 Treating effluent; heavy water DEUTERIUM CORP 22 March 1972 [22 March 1971] 13481/72 Headings C1A and C1C In a process for producing heavy water in a dual temperature exchange system in which H 2 S gas and water are contacted at elevated temperature and pressure, water, prior to being fed into the system, is heated by heat-exchange with effluent discharged from a hot tower of the system and saturated at elevated temperature and pressure with H 2 S gas from a cold tower of the system. In the embodiment shown, hot effluent from a hot tower (not shown) is passed via line 8A to flash evaporators 26-23. The resultant H 2 S gas is treated with cold water to condense water vapour contained therein and the H 2 S gas is returned to the system via line 7A, which line includes compressors 40-42. The remaining H 2 S in the hot effluent is stripped by steam in stripper 22, treated with cold water, compressed and returned to the system. The effluent, after treatment in the stripper 22, is passed to steam flash evaporator 18, part of the produced steam being used in stripper 22. The sea water being fed to the system from line 3A is passed via hydrocyclone 10 and deaerator 11 to heat exchanger 16 comprising a plurality of units connected in series and in parallel, in which it is heated by effluent from evaporator 18. The feed water is then further heated by direct contact with steam produced in the evaporator 18 and then saturated in saturator 21 with H 2 S gas from a cold tower of the system, supplied through line 9A.
