Abstract

1393192 Fluid pressure apparatus INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE 3 May 1973 [5 May 1972 23 June 1972 (2)] 21088/73 Heading F1P A pressure which substantially follows a law of variation dependent on the geometry of the device is maintained in a pipe 17, Fig. 1, by jacks 3, 4 which have their cylinders pivoted to fixed points and their piston rods linked together by a rod 5, the cylinder of jack 3 being connected to an hydraulic accumulator by a line 16. In an alternative arrangement the rod 5 may be held stationary whilst the cylinders of the jacks are articulated about the same movable point. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which the articulation point 8 is fixed and the point 6 slides along a diagonal of the quadrilateral 10 - 13. In Fig. 3 rods 10 - 13 form a rhomb and the point 6 is moved to the right along the axis of the jack 3. Fig.4 (not shown), illustrates an arrangement in which the point 6 moves to the left. Formulae are provided for calculating the pressure in the line 17.
