Abstract

1393106 N,N<SP>1</SP>-Disubstituted pyromellitic diimides CIBA-GEIGY AG 29 Sept 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45123/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Novel compounds of general Formula I wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>, which are the same or different, are C 1-4 alkyl groups (e.g. t-butyl) and y is 0, 1, 2 or 3, are prepared, in the cases where y = 0, 2 or 3, by reacting the corresponding 3,5- dialkyl-4-hydroxy-phenylsubstituted primary amine with pyromellitic dianhydride in an inert solvent at reflux temperatures. The compounds of Formula I wherein y is 1 are prepared by reacting the corresponding 3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxybenzyl-dialkylamine with pyromellitic diimide in an inert solvent at about 120‹ C. The compounds of Formula I are stabilizers for organic polymeric material.
