Abstract

1392960 Brick-laying machine COMBUSTION ENG INC 26 July 1972 35043/72 Heading EIS [Also in Division F4] A machine for laying a brick lining 28 in a vessel 24 comprises a support frame 64 mounted for rotation, e.g. on a turntable 30, and having a support, e.g. a carriage 90, movable up and down thereon, and a conveyor 146 on the carriage for delivering bricks in turn to the lining where they are positioned by a brick pusher 236 on the end of the conveyor 146, which latter is longitudinally adjustable on the carriage 90; operation of the machine, which may be by pneumatic motors and cylinders is controlled by an automatic control system for correctly positioning the conveyor for the next brick after the laying of each brick in turn. The carriage 90 has a platform 92 on which bricks 144 are initially stacked, from where they are lifted in rows by grippers 132 suspended from a boom 118, and placed on the coveyor 146 which comprises a pair of chains 166. The conveyor stops when a brick reaches the delivery end, and a pair of spaced pivotally mounted gripper arms 272, 282 pick up the brick and swing it over on to the already laid bricks in the lining 28, the brick being simultaneously rotated by the rotating gripper pad 284 to bring it to the correct orientation, and the brick pusher 236, comprising a wheel 250 on a rotating linkage, pushes the brick against the previously laid brick, the bricks being laid in a continuous helical row as described. Mortar may be supplied. The turntable 30 then rotates to position the conveyor for the next brick; the height of the carriage 90 is continuously adjusted by a device 200 riding on the top of the lining and actuating the hoist 78. For details of the pneumatic control circuit, the Specification should be consulted.
