In dismounting a container an independent lifting means, such as the trolley jack 15, is used to move the plunger 6 upwardly and thus lift the container; support legs may then be fitted to the container to hold it clear of the chassis. The chassis may also carry at least one device for stabilizing the container during lifting. The or each stabilizing device includes a transverse bar 10 rotatably mounted in bearings 11 on the chassis and having at each end supporting arms 12. A double armed lever 8 fixed to the centre of bar 10 engages the head of a plunger 6, so that on moving the plunger upwardly the bar is rotated and arms 12 engage the underside of the container.
